Being an artist – dancer, choreographer, vocalist, performer – grounds me. It brings forth an inner honesty that necessitates substantial attention to the richness of each moment. I devour the rooted details of rehearsals made seamless for performance. In it there is an earthy satisfaction of achievements, and hunger for the next opportunity.

Ma Negresse is a story about a mystical spirit nestled in a Creole community who finds its way into the life of Anjali, a telepathic Black writer, tapping into the magical powers of her ancestors. Revealing a transformative story of “once being property to owning property,” the film is a meditation on the interconnected tethers of ancestral lineage, trauma, and survival.
